ADVISORY/Merrill Lynch Sets Plans to Commemorate One-Year Anniversary of September 11.

Business Editors

ADVISORY...for Wednesday Wednesday: see week.  (Sept. 11)

--(BUSINESS WIRE)

Note to Editors: Merrill Lynch (NYSE: MER) will commemorate the
one-year anniversary of September 11 with the following activities:

-- Memorial Service: Merrill Lynch will begin September 11 with a
brief service for employees at 8:15 a.m. at its New York City
headquarters in the World Financial Center led by Chairman and
CEO David Komansky and President and COO Stan O'Neal. The
service will be broadcast to all Merrill Lynch locations
globally and will conclude with a moment of silence at 8:46
        a.m. EST.

-- Plaque Dedication: Two plaques will be dedicated to those
Merrill Lynch employees lost in the terrorist attacks--David
Brady, Robert McIlvaine and Michael Packer--as well as all who
lost their lives. One plaque will be placed on the 10th floor
balcony of 2 World Financial Center facing Ground Zero and the
other will be placed in the lobby of 4 World Financial Center.

-- Flag Dedication: Shortly after last year's terrorist attack,
members of the military came to the Merrill Lynch building at
2 World Financial Center and in a quick, unplanned ceremony,
raised the flags of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and
Coast Guard. Later, a New York City Port Authority flag was
also raised. All the flags were taken down in March, when
repairs to the building started. Merrill Lynch has decided to
reinstate the flag display and add the United States flag and
the flags of the New York City Police and Fire Departments as
a permanent tribute to the armed services, rescue workers and
        victims.

-- Commemorative Book: A book titled 9/11 One Year Later: The
People of Merrill Lynch Remember, gives voice to the many
employees who bore witness to the events of 9/11. It includes
an introduction from Messrs. Komansky and O'Neal, tributes to
the three Merrill Lynch employees lost, reflections from
former Mayor Rudy Giuliani, and employee remembrances of the
day collected from Remembering, Healing, Helping, a special
Merrill Lynch website created shortly after September 11. The
book is being distributed to all Merrill Lynch employees
        around the world.
