WHO/WHAT: To determine the reaction of college students to the "Got Beer?" advertising campaign initiated by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is an international nonprofit organization that supports Animal Rights and has spawned a tremendous amount of conflict and controversy from its inception.  (PETA Quadrillion (10 to the 15th power). See space/time. ), Memolink Memolink is an online loyalty program based out of Denver, Colorado. Founded in 1994 and launched in September 1999, Memolink rewards members with points for visiting websites, shopping online, completing offers, playing trivia, and completing market research surveys. .com has launched an online survey of the student-focused site's existing members.

WHEN: The survey is currently underway and will continue throughout the weekend, with results available the morning of Monday Monday: see week. , March 20. Final data will be released Monday afternoon.

WHERE: The online research survey is being conducted on the Memolink, Inc. Web site (www.Memolink.com) and will include students from across the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. .

WHY: The survey is one of many that the company conducts as part of its reward program, which also offers points toward free items and services to members for visiting sponsor Web sites and sampling products. Memolink's research studies are used to provide accurate insight into students' attitudes and preferences. Surveys are commonly conducted under contract from major consumer organizations and other concerns that wish to reach college students.

Note: Memolink has already received 1,000 responses on its survey since March 16. Following are a few interesting results based on those responses:

     -- 94 percent do not believe it is realistic to claim beer is
        healthier than milk.

     -- 33 percent believe that beer drinking among college students
        on campus is a severe problem. More women (37 percent) than
        men (25 percent) agreed with this statement. Further
        preliminary results available upon request.
