ADVISORY/Media Day At The Georgia Cancer Center for Excellence at Grady Health System.

Health/Medical Writers

ADVISORY...for Tuesday Tuesday: see week.  (Feb. 25)

--(BUSINESS WIRE)

What: The new Georgia Cancer Center for Excellence at Grady Health
System will open its doors to the media for a first look at the
state-of-the-art facility. On March 3, 2003, Governor Sonny Perdue
will dedicate the center, which is the first to open as part of
the Georgia Cancer Coalition's plan to build a statewide network
of people and organizations devoted to providing all Georgians
equal access to exceptional treatment. The cancer center was built
using $28.4 million in tobacco settlement funds, paired with a
private gift of $3.3 million from the Avon Foundation to build the
    comprehensive breast center.

Many firsts are associated with the Georgia Cancer Center for
Excellence at Grady, including the world's first and newest
application of the Discovery ST, a combined PET/CT scanner
developed by GE Medical Systems that is part of the company's See
and Treat product portfolio. The GE Discovery ST provides more
accurate and detailed information to physicians about certain
cancers, which helps them to target treatment at the tumor site
and reduce the potential for damage to nearby, healthy tissue. In
addition, the Georgia Cancer Center for Excellence has the latest
digital mammography system, the GE Senographe 2000D, improving
breast cancer detection, and the GE LightSpeed Ultra, a
revolutionary eight-slice CT system that provides scans up to
three times faster using up to 30 percent less radiation per dose
    than four-slice scanners.
