WHAT: Media preview day for Van Nuys Airport's Aviation
Expo 2003, celebrating the Centennial of Flight and
the 75th anniversaries of Los Angeles International
and Van Nuys Airports. See military and vintage
aircraft arrivals, preview Expo's high-energy
aerobatics performances, meet top gun fighter
pilots, and get a firsthand look at an exact
replica of the 1903 Wright Flyer -- the first
aircraft to achieve sustained, powered flight.
Excellent opportunities for visuals.
WHEN: Friday, June 20, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
10 a.m. Look to the skies for thrilling aerobatics and
skydiving demonstrations. From 10 a.m. to 10:30
a.m., get a preview of the weekend's excitement as
Expo headliner aerobatic pilots Sean Tucker and Ed
Hamill present their shows. Joining the action will
be Dave and Rodney Benson performing their
spectacular flag jumps, skydiving with
5,000-square-foot flags.
11 a.m. See the arrival of the F-117A Stealth Fighter, one
of the world's most advanced military aircraft.
11 a.m. to 5 p.m. View other military aircraft arrivals, including
the B-52 Bomber, F-15E Strike Eagle, F/A-18 Hornet,
F-16 Falcon, F-4 Phantom, A-10 Warthog, KC-135
tanker and more. Several of these types of aircraft
saw action in the recent war in Iraq.
Interview/photo opportunities with pilots and crew
of selected aircraft will be available.
11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Media tours of featured aircraft. See the Wright
Brothers' 1903 Wright Flyer. Expo is one of only 10
tour stops nationwide for this groundbreaking
aircraft on the American Institute of Aeronautics
and Astronautics Wright Flyer Centennial Tour.
Media tours of the Ford Motor Company exhibit
featuring an interactive display area. Put yourself
in the pilot's seat and experience aviation history
in the making on the Wright Flyer Simulator.
WHERE: Expo 2003's service entrance at 8050 Balboa Blvd.
