WHAT:        Mayor Hahn, Eli Broad and others to experience a day in
             the life of an LA's BEST child as they tour one of the
             original LA's BEST program sites established in 1988.

             This LA's BEST site visit and celebration follows this
             morning's announcement by Mayor Hahn that he will expand
             the program from its existing 78 sites to 101 sites over
             the next four months, with the assistance of a major
             contribution from The Broad Foundation's LA Education
             Venture Fund.

             Media are invited to attend; tour will provide insight as
             to how children at the newly named 23 expansion schools
             will benefit from LA's BEST.

PHOTO OPS:   LA's BEST students and staff to showcase variety of
             program activities, followed by Mayor Hahn and Broad
             joining the children for their afternoon snack!

BACKGROUND:  LA's BEST (Better Educated Students for Tomorrow) was
             established in 1988 to provide a safe and supervised
             after-school education, enrichment and recreation program
             for children ages 5 to 12 in under-served areas of the
             city of Los Angeles.
