An Estimated 75 Tons of Trash Expected to Be Collected During

"Capital River Relief"

WHAT:       Earth Day event surrounding Capital River Relief, an
            unprecedented cleanup of the Potomac and Anacostia Rivers
            involving thousands of volunteers, and local and national
            conservation groups.

            The backdrop for the event will be the 140-foot barge
            piled with trash collected from the Potomac and Anacostia
            rivers. As of April 20, Chad, his crew and volunteers have
            collected 40 tons of trash including:  2,950 bags of
            trash, 746 tires, 25 fifty-five gallon barrels, 12
            shopping carts, seven refrigerators, six messages in
            bottles, three water heaters and one mannequin hand.

            Refreshments will be served.

About Capital River Relief

The Capital River Relief project, themed "Team Up to Clean Up," is a partnership of environmental groups, community and government organizations, businesses and individuals joining together to improve the Potomac and Anacostia rivers and watersheds. The project is led by nationally recognized environmental entrepreneur Chad Pregracke, Founder of Living Lands & Waters; Doug Siglin, Director of the Chesapeake Bay Chesapeake Bay, inlet of the Atlantic Ocean, c.200 mi (320 km) long, from 3 to 30 mi (4.8–48 km) wide, and 3,237 sq mi (8,384 sq km), separating the Delmarva Peninsula from mainland Maryland. and Virginia.  Foundation's Anacostia River Initiative; and founding sponsor, Koch Industries Koch Industries, Inc. (pronounced "koke") is a private corporation based in Wichita, Kansas. According to Forbes Magazine, it is the largest privately owned company in the world by revenue (surpassing Cargill in 2005 with the acquisition of Georgia-Pacific), with subsidiaries , Inc. The clean up started on April 1st and will conclude on April 24th.
