ADVISORY/Marines to Honor Dennis Swanson -- Reisenbach's 'Distinguished Citizen' Of 2002 -- Award To Be Presented At December 10 Gotham Gala.

Entertainment & Business Editors

ADVISORY...for Tuesday Tuesday: see week.  (Dec. 10)

--(BUSINESS WIRE)

WHAT: Several current and former members of the US Marine Corps will
pay tribute to fellow marine Dennis Swanson, one of America's most
respected broadcasters, when he receives the "Distinguished
Citizen Award" from the John A. Reisenbach Foundation, the media
industry's premiere charitable institution. The Marines will join
a host of broadcasters and media types at the Reisenbach
Foundation's 11th annual Gala for a Better and Safer New York.

New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, a 30-year Marine and
Vietnam combat veteran who retired as a Colonel, will present
the award to Swanson -- himself a Vietnam-era veteran who
retired from the corps as a captain. Ex- USMC Captain Gerry
Byrne, a former Marine Captain, is co-chairman of the event.
And the four-member USMC Color Guard will "present the
colors." The ceremonial bagpipers of the New York Police
    Department will perform.

WHEN: Tuesday, December 10 at 6:30 pm at New York's Rainbow Room, 30
Rockefeller Plaza. Tickets start at $500. For information call
    212-935-1840.

DETAILS: Oprah Winfrey, whose daytime talk-show was launched by
Swanson when he was General Manager of Chicago's WLS-TV, has
recorded a three-minute video tribute to her former boss. Channel
4 News anchor Jim Rosenfield, whom Swanson hired away from Channel
2 when he was running Channel 4, will attend. Comedy Central
president Larry Divney, a member of the Reisenbach Foundation
board, is co- chairman of the event.

Swanson had been president and general manager of New York's WNBC
Channel 4 until he joined Viacom Inc. this year as executive vice
president and chief operating officer of its television stations
group. He is only the second person honored as a "Distinguished
Citizen" by the Reisenbach Foundation in its 11-year history. The
first is Gerald Levin, the former AOL Time-Warner CEO.

HISTORY: Founded in 1991 after the July 30, 1990 unsolved murder of
John A. Reisenbach, then the 34-year-old vice president of
national advertising sales for All American (now Pearson)
Television at the corner of Greenwich and Jane Streets in
Manhattan, The John A. Reisenbach Foundation is supported by New
York's media and advertising communities. To date it has given
more than $3.5 million to programs that improve the quality of
life in New York. They include The John A. Reisenbach Charter
School in Harlem; Cab Watch, a program which puts 911-only
wireless phones in taxis; The John A. Reisenbach Neighborhood
Safety Project; The John A. Reisenbach Awards for Courtesy,
Professionalism, and Respect, given to outstanding New York Police
Department employees in consultation with the New York City Police
Commissioner; John Jay College of Criminal Justice Masters
    Scholarships and Doctoral Fellowships.
