Making It to the Top, MIT Sloan Alumni Club of Boston's 2nd Annual Women in Business & Technology Symposium, will be held at the Hotel@MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts This article is about the city of Cambridge in Massachusetts. Cambridge, Massachusetts is a city in the Greater Boston area of Massachusetts, United States.
 on May 15th, 2004. The 2004 Symposium is being brought to you in association with Catalyst Inc., the leading nonprofit research and advisory organization working to advance women in business.

In the past decade women in the business world have reached significant milestones and made enormous progress. As an increasing number of women join the senior ranks of companies and organizations, they continue to face unique challenges, issues, and choices. At our 2004 Symposium, over 16 distinguished speakers and panelists will share their views about what it takes to Make It to the Top, describe their experiences blazing trails in politics and business, and offer personal stories of finding work-life balance The expression work-life balance was first used in 1986 in the US (although had been used in the UK from the late 1970s by organisations such as New Ways to Work and the Working Mother's Association) to help explain the unhealthy life choices that many people were making; they were  in the face of ever increasing demands.

The 2004 Symposium will feature keynote speakers Jane Swift Jane Maria Swift (born February 24, 1965) is an American politician from Melrose, Massachusetts. A Republican, she served as Acting Governor of Massachusetts from 2001 to 2003. Swift is the first woman to serve as a Governor of Massachusetts (albeit unelected). , Partner at Arcadia Partners and former Governor of the State of Massachusetts; Ilene Lang, President of Catalyst, and Founder of AltaVista; and Robin Chase, MIT Sloan SM '86, Founder, Vice-Chair and former CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Zipcar. The Symposium will also feature additional panelists including: Shirley Singleton, CEO of Edgewater Technology; and Stephanie Sonnabend, MIT Sloan SM '79, CEO and President of Sonesta International Hotels.

The all-day Symposium is organized around three panels with over 16 speakers who will address the following questions:

1. Is the Executive Level Right for You?

2. What is the Executive-level Experience across Different Industries and in Large versus Small Companies?

3. What is the Value of Networks from an Executive-level Perspective?

Admission includes continental breakfast, lunch, snacks, networking cocktail party, event program and a one-year free subscription to Women Business Boston. Early registration is encouraged as space is limited and prices are subject to increase. The event is open to all interested parties.
