WHAT: Human resources and procurement representatives from Lucent
Technologies Microelectronics Group in Alhambra, Calif.,
formerly the Ortel Corporation, will be available to discuss
employment and vendor opportunities with local area
residents. Applications will be accepted on-site for Lucent's
new Irwindale operations. The Microelectronics Group here
designs, manufactures and distributes fiberoptic components
used in telephone and cable television equipment. Founded in
1980 in Alhambra, the company here currently has more than
500 employees, and several hundred new jobs will be created
with the opening of its Irwindale facility.
Hiring will soon begin in earnest for the new Irwindale
facility, which is expected to be fully operational by
September of 2001. A complete list of job descriptions and
training requirements will be provided, and local businesses
are also invited to learn about product and service
procurement opportunities with the company.
