This year alone in California, 20,045 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and another 4,380 will die from the disease. Early detection of breast cancer is critical to treatment, survival and reduction of treatment costs. To mark the 15th anniversary, Vons/Safeway will be presenting a $165,000 contribution to breast cancer awareness advocate Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante to help support breast cancer organizations statewide. This week, health care volunteers are staffing tables at various Vons stores providing breast cancer education materials to customers.
