What: Setting a new standard of optimal care for the elderly, the
Los Angeles Jewish Home for the Aging will break ground on The
Residential Medical Center, a 249-bed complex offering
specialized medical care and enrichment programs in an
innovative residential setting. Marking the largest expansion
in the Jewish Home's nearly 100-year history, fund-raising for
this state-of-the-art facility began in 1999. To date, the
community has raised more than $51 million in gifts and
pledges toward a $72 million goal. Serving as the anchor for
the Grancell Village Campus, the Center will consist of three
interconnected buildings -- the Brandman Research Institute,
the Hazan Pavilion and the LaKretz--Black Tower. Utilizing the
latest architectural innovations, the Center will feature a
10-bed geriatric psychiatric unit, residential neighborhoods,
indoor and outdoor recreational spaces, kitchen and dining room
facilities, entertainment and computer centers, clinical
medical services and a research center.
Who: Nearly 300 community leaders and supporters of the Jewish
Home's mission to provide state-of the-art care for the
elderly will be in attendance, including Mayor Jim Hahn,
Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky and City Councilman Dennis Zine.
