Incorporate Environmentally-Friendly Design

Elements for New Bond-Funded Buildings

What:   At its board meeting tomorrow, the Los Angeles Community
        College District (LACCD) Board of Trustees will consider a
        plan to adopt nationally recognized environmental standards
        for buildings funded by Proposition A, the $1.2 billion
        facilities bond measure approved by voters in April 2001. The
        proposed plan will help LACCD contribute to a cleaner
        environment by incorporating renewable energy and materials
        such as solar power, recycled materials, energy efficient
        building design and water efficient landscaping into the new
        bond-funded construction scheduled to begin this fall.

Who:    LACCD Board of Trustees President Sylvia Scott-Hayes, members
        Warren Furutani, Mona Field, Kelly Candaele, Georgia Mercer,
        Nancy Pearlman and Michael Waxman, LACCD Chancellor Mark
        Drummond, presidents of the nine LACCD colleges, students,
        environmental supporters and community leaders.
