EVENT: The Salvation Army will host its annual Partners
Award Ceremony at Loews Hotel. Local
organizations and individuals will receive
certificates of appreciation for volunteering
time and services. There will also be a special
Greatest Youth Achievement Award presented to a
youth who has overcome adversity and
demonstrated outstanding accomplishments.

WHO: Among those being honored are Byers' Choice
Ltd., Jerry Lee (President and Co-Owner of WBEB
101.1 FM), Thomas Jefferson University, and
youth recipient Monica Barney.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS: At the age of 6, Monica Barney came to the
Salvation Army Pioneer Corps on Allegheny Avenue
in Kensington as a part of the Sunbeam program
for girls and the afternoon music program. For
Monica, the Salvation Army became a safe haven
and music an avenue for personal achievement and
development.
She continued her involvement in the numerous
musical programs offered by the Salvation Army
and is presently participating in the
Philadelphia Citadel Corps music program. Just
last spring she was proud to be a member of the
First Place Salvation Army Youth Band in the
eleven eastern states. Monica attends Girl's
High where she is an honor student and plays
flute in the school orchestra.
Monica represents the hope that can be brought
out of what seems to be a desperate situation.
She has been able to discover the gifts within
her and has begun to share these gifts with
others at the Salvation Army.
