(June June: see month. 3) --(BUSINESS WIRE) 400 Volunteers are Expected to Sort the Equivalent of 85,000 Meals During this Week-long Food Sorting Competition in Observance of National Hunger Hunger A term most commonly used to refer to the subjective feelings that accompany the need for food; however, the study of this topic has come to include consideration of the overall control of food intake. Awareness Day Thursday, June 3, 2004
WHO: Lieutenant Governor Kerry Healey will visit The Greater Boston
Food Bank on Thursday, June 3rd at 1:30 p.m. to sort food with
employees from Tufts Health Plan and Blue Cross Blue Shield of
Massachusetts. Lieutenant Governor Healey's visit is on
National Hunger Awareness Day, part of a national call for
hunger awareness. The food that Lieutenant Governor Healey and
the volunteers sort will be donated to families throughout
eastern Massachusetts - including some of the 173,000 children
who are at-risk of going to bed hungry on any given day during
the summer.
"We are thrilled that the Lieutenant Governor and all of this
week's volunteers will help us focus on hungry children. As
school ends - and with it school breakfast and lunch - many
children face summers where access to the food they need is
uncertain," commented Catherine D'Amato, president and CEO of
The Greater Boston Food Bank.
"The issue of hunger is a silent epidemic, and I applaud the
efforts of The Greater Boston Food Bank and the hundreds of
volunteers here this week who are actively working to solve
the issue of hunger," said Lieutenant Governor Healey. "I
encourage everyone in the state to get involved."
EDITOR'S NOTE: Lieutenant Governor Healey and Catherine
