ADVISORY/Let There Be Light!: Panel Hosted by IEEE Spectrum Illuminates the Applications of Gallium Nitride at COMDEX Fall 2002.Business Editors COMDEX The former, premier computer trade show in the U.S. Although it grew into an end user event, it was originally created for dealers and distributors (it was the COMputer Dealers EXposition). Fall 2002 ADVISORY...for Tuesday Tuesday: see week. (Nov. 19) --(BUSINESS WIRE) IEEE Spectrum IEEE Spectrum is a magazine edited by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. The IEEE's description of it is:
WHAT: Gallium nitride recently revolutionized the market for
light-emitting diodes (LEDs) by making possible the first
green, blue, and violet LEDs and creating a market worth
over half a billion dollars a year. Now, researchers are
closing in on the next stage in the commercialization of
gallium nitride, which will feature blue and violet lasers,
that will be at the heart of digital video consoles and
optical data-storage systems. Laser printers with twice the
resolution of today's models are expected to debut not long
after. Finally, a little further out, are gallium-nitride
transistors, which will be used in amplifiers in future
high-speed wireless base stations and satellite
communications terminals. IEEE Spectrum Executive Editor
Glenn Zorpette will explore this topic joined by the
following experts in this field:
- John W. Palmour, Director, Advanced Services, Cree,
Inc.
- Steven DenBaars, Professor, Electrical Engineering,
University of California, Santa Barbara
- Noble Johnson, Manager, Optoelectronics, Palo Alto
Research Center
WHEN: Tuesday, Nov. 19, 10:30 - 11:45 a.m.
WHERE: COMDEX Fall 2002, Las Vegas Convention Center, North 252
DETAILS: IEEE Spectrum is producing "Crystal Ball: Technology
Infusions," a five-panel track part of the business
technology conference at COMDEX Fall 2002. Each panel
focuses on one of five emerging technologies that are likely
to have a significant impact on the IT industry within the
next three to five years. In addition to gallium nitride,
technologies to be explored are organic electronics, the
semantic Web, speech recognition technology and autonomic
computing.
IEEE Spectrum is a top science and technology magazine whose
core strength is its ability to round up top industry
professionals to provide informed, expert commentary on the
most important science and technology concerns of our time
in each issue. The magazine serves as a source of
information on trends in science and technology for everyone
from the computer programmer, to the CEO to the average
consumer.
INTERVIEWS: Immediately following each panel, IEEE Spectrum editors
and panelists will be available for interviews and Q&A at
the Media/Analyst Facility, Central Hall 2 (C2 Entrance) -
Room B. To view product prototypes and obtain additional
information about each emerging technology, visit IEEE
Spectrum Booth # 7958.
