Actor/director LeVar Burton Levardis Robert Martyn Burton Jr. (born February 16, 1957, in Landstuhl, West Germany), professionally known as LeVar Burton, is an actor, director and author who first came to prominence playing Kunta Kinte in the 1977 award winning television miniseries Roots  will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Literacy Network of Greater Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  at a September 28 dinner at the Universal City Hilton in Universal City.

The award will be presented by Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Chairman and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  Meryl Marshall. In addition, winners in the categories of television, film and radio will be announced at the non-profit organization's second annual "Literacy in Media" awards ceremony.

Keynote speaker for the event will be longtime literacy advocate actor Gerald McRaney ("Major Dad," "Simon & Simon"). Celebrity presenters will include actors Lou Diamond Phillips and A Martinez ("General Hospital), and the announcer will be ABC ABC
 in full American Broadcasting Co.
