An outstanding array of key legislators, federal agency representatives and top industry executives will address attendees at Realtors(R) Midyear Legislative Meetings & Trade Expo, May 13 through 17, in Washington

More than 7,300 Realtors(R) and guests are expected to attend the meetings and make their voices heard on Capitol Hill. Topping the list of issues at this year's meetings will be NAR's continued effort to stop banks from entering the real estate brokerage and property management industries. Other key issues will include issues of insurance availability and cost, as well as Virtual Office Web sites (VOWs) and their future impact on the industry.

Confirmed speakers include U.S. Sens. Mary Landrieu Mary Loretta Landrieu (born November 23, 1955) is the Senior Democratic United States senator from the state of Louisiana, as well as the first, and as of 2007, only woman from that state to be elected to the Senate. , D-La. and Alan Sessions, R-Ala., who will address the Public Policy Political Forum on Thursday, May 15. U.S. Rep. Anne Northup Anne Meagher Northup (born January 22 1948) is an American Republican politician from the state of Kentucky. From 1997 to 2007, she represented the Louisville-centered 3rd congressional district of Kentucky in the United States House of Representatives, where she served on the , R-Ky., will address the Member/Director Forum on Tuesday, May 13. U.S. Rep. William L. Clay, R-Mo., will speak at the congressional regulatory panel on Tuesday, May 13.

U.S. Rep. Shelly Moore Shelly Moore (born September 18, 1978) is a beauty queen from Knoxville, Tennessee who won the Miss Teen USA 1997 title.

Land Use, Property Rights and Environment Forum: The forum provides Realtors(R) the opportunity to hear experts discuss complex and important land use, property rights, and environmental issues. The forum is scheduled for Tuesday, May 13, from 2 to 4 p.m. This year the focus will be the impact of growth management on housing opportunity. Featured speakers are Samuel Staley, president of the Buckeye Institute; John McIlwain, senior fellow, Urban Land Institute; and Richard Voith, executive director, Greater Philadelphia Transportation Institute.

Member & Director Forum: Special guest U.S. Rep. Anne M. Northup, R-Ky., will receive the NAR leadership award at the forum, which is scheduled for Tuesday, May 13, from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

Public Policy Political Forum: The forum provides Realtors(R) an opportunity to gain insight and information regarding important political developments and issues of the day. Additionally, legislative and regulatory experts exchange information and viewpoints regarding key issues affecting Realtors(R) and the real estate industry. The forum meets on Thursday, May 15, from 7:30 - 9:30 a.m.

Congressional Briefing: The briefing provides Realtors(R) with a synopsis of the priority issues that NAR is recommending Realtors(R) discuss with their members of Congress during their Hill visits. NAR Government Affairs Senior Vice President Jerry Giovaniello provides a detailed legislative briefing of the important issues and policy matters for Realtors(R)' advocacy before Congress. The briefing convenes on Wednesday, May 14, from 7 to 8 a.m.

 Housing: Presented by the Housing Needs Committee, this session will highlight the working solutions of successful housing opportunity programs run by state and local Realtor(R) associations. Attendees will come away with ideas that they can use to begin housing opportunity programs and activities within their communities. The workshop will be held on Thursday, May 15, from 8 to 10 a.m.

Multiple Listing Issues & Policies Forum and Committee: The forum and committee will give an overview of the newly developed draft policy on Virtual Office Web sites (VOWs), and review other issues relating to newly developed technologies and their application to Multiple Listing Systems (MLS See multilevel security. ) and related marketing topics. The groups meet on Thursday, May 15, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Trade Expo: Attending the Midyear Trade Expo can help Realtors(R) save hundreds of hours in their search for the right real estate products and vendors, and help discover new ideas for generating leads and streamlining their businesses. The trade show is located in the same building as the main business meetings. This is the only site where you can see the newest real estate products and services all under one roof. Expo hours are Wednesday, May 14, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Thursday, May 16, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Friday, May 16, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Board of Directors: The NAR Board of Directors will meet on Saturday, May 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Registration Information: Members of the media may register on site in the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, Atrium, on Monday, May 12, from noon to 5 p.m.; Tuesday through Thursday, May 13 - 15, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Friday, May 16, from 8 a.m. to noon.
