           disabled population: "Providing Culturally Competent Care
           for our Members with disAbilities"

           People with disabilities will present an evening of
           entertainment on the first day of the conference.

           National Rehabilitation Awareness Celebration Week is
           Sept. 15 - 21
           Conference: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.;
           Thursday entertainment: 6:30 p.m.

WHO        --  National leaders from the disability community
           --  Health care experts from Kaiser Permanente and other
               leading organizations
           --  Thursday evening entertainment: comedian David Roche,
               the Axis Dance Company (a contemporary ensemble
               comprised of people with and without disabilities) and
               music by the Diremakers (a professional band whose
               members attend Short Center North, a Sacramento-area
               program for people with developmental disabilities)

BACKGROUND Kaiser Permanente will mount a symposium focusing on the
           health care needs of the disAbled population. Experts will
           present from many organizations including the Disability
           Rights Education and Defense Fund, Disability Rights
           Advocates, Children's Health Council, California State
           Department of Rehabilitation, UC Davis School of Medicine,
           World Institute on Disability, the UC Berkeley
           Disability Studies Program, the National Rehabilitation
           Hospital and the Kaiser Foundation Rehabilitation Center.
           Topics to include: cross-cultural beliefs and attitudes
           toward disability; violence, abuse; bio-ethical issues;
           substance abuse; sexuality, reproduction and disability;
