WHEN: September 2, 2003, 6:15-7:15 p.m.
WHERE: JW Marriott Spa and Golf Resort (Grand Ballroom C)
221 North Rampart Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89145

WHO/WHAT: Three hundred doctors who are in Las Vegas for
their annual American Academy of Family Physicians
conference will attend "Nightmare on Puberty
Street," a one-hour theatrical performance about
the changes and challenges of puberty.
The troupe members are young professional actors
and trained health educators working full-time for
Kaiser Permanente's Educational Theatre Program
(ETP), the largest professional educational
theatre touring company in the country.
WHY: Over the last 19 years, Kaiser Permanente's
Educational Theatre Program has provided
performances and workshops free of charge to
schools, bringing the messages of conflict
resolution, violence prevention and healthy
choices home to more than 7 million California
students from kindergarten to senior high school.
Using drama, comedy and song, ETP tackles head-on
the dire consequences that can result from risky
behavior and delivers solid age-appropriate health
information while providing the kind of
encouraging and inspiring messages that will stay
with young people throughout their lives.
ANGLE: ETP is the only such program sponsored by a health
maintenance organization, and for the full-time
actors who receive full benefits year-round, it is
a unique opportunity to be gainfully employed in
the "biz." Indeed, there are very few programs
where actors can practice their trade, have
financial security, and work toward healthier
communities as well. It has also served as a
launching pad for careers in television and motion
pictures for many of the fledgling actors.
