ADVISORY/K-12 Schools Go OnLine.

Business Editors

ADVISORY...

--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 3, 2001
TOPIC: Former Education Secretary William Bennett, recently introduced a new
online, for-profit school. The K-12 school, which reportedly plans to begin
enrollment next fall in kindergarten through second-grade, will eventually
offer lessons in all grades and subject areas -- including math, the arts and
sex education, according to a story by The Associated Press. Experts who favor
education technology claim that the Internet can help children isolated from
traditional schoolhouses by distance or disabilities or benefit home schooled
students, according to the story. The nonprofit, Orlando-based Florida Online
High School has offered online courses since 1997 for grades 9 to 12
nationwide, the story said. Online classes are also used in charter schools
across the country and at the state-funded Valley Pathways online school in
Palmer, Alaska, where about 300 students take one to six courses a semester on
the Web, the story said. EXPERTS: ExpertSource can offer several highly
qualified experts to comment on this story:
