Media and Community Event on May 26


  WHAT:  Jumpstart, Starbucks Coffee Company (Nasdaq:SBUX), and the
         University of Washington (UW) are officially launching
         Jumpstart Seattle. Media, community leaders and families are
         invited to a special event to learn more about Jumpstart's
         new mentoring program at the UW and about their partnership
         with Starbucks.

         UW college students serve as Jumpstart Corps members and help
         prepare preschool children for school. Since the beginning of
         the school year, 29 UW students have been working with 134
         children from local preschools, including Denise Louie
         Education Center (Beacon Hill and International District
         locations) and First A.M.E. Family and Child Center (Seattle
         Vocational Institute and Odessa Brown sites in the Central
         District).

         Senior leadership from Jumpstart, Starbucks and the UW will
         deliver remarks at the event, and a Jumpstart Corps member
         will share her personal experiences working one-to-one with a
         preschool child. The event will also feature learning
         activities for children and adults and a special announcement
         from Jumpstart and Starbucks.

         Jumpstart Seattle was launched in part through a challenge
         grant from Starbucks and is the result of unique
         collaboration between local education, corporate and service
         communities. As Jumpstart's growth partner, Starbucks
         four-year, $1 million donation supports Jumpstart's continued
         operations and helps Jumpstart expand to serve more children
         and communities nationwide.
