The California Department of Boating and Waterways is co-sponsoring the North Bay Boating Festival, at the waterfront in Vallejo, on Saturday, May 13 and Sunday, May 14, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. The festival is free and open to the public. Festival-goers can tour the 82-ft. Coast Guard cutter, Point Brower, and see the latest models of personal watercraft (Jet Skis(TM)). The whole family will enjoy the live "man overboard" drill, helicopter landings, and boat-towing and fire-fighting demonstrations. The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will display a cross-sectioned personal watercraft -- cut in half from bow to stern -- to show the workings of its jet-drive engine. Don't miss the water parade, equipment display, information booths, clowns, games, children's games, children's, amusements or pastimes involving more than one child and in which there is some sort of formalized dramatic element, contest, or plot. Games are a cultural universal; for example, the string play called Cat's Cradle is common to cultures as varied as Eskimo, Australian, and African. activities, food and more. Festival co-sponsors include the Vallejo Convention and Visitors Bureau, Vallejo Municipal Marina, City of Vallejo, Central California Safe Boating Council, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, U.S. Power Squadrons, Vallejo Times Herald, and the Kiwanis of Vallejo. |
