AWARDS BACKGROUND:
This Recognition Award goes to Annette Johnson. She is
receiving the Honorable Mention JTPA alumni award. Johnson
was a welfare recipient with a substance abuse condition and
limited work experience. Through the San Fernando Gardens
JTPA program, she was able to overcome her many obstacles
successfully, which culminated in a job at the GAIN office in
Panorama City.
The Honorable Mention award also goes to Elizabeth Valdez.
Valdez completed the JTPA program at Ramona Gardens in
medical billing training. Since her placing at White Memorial
Hospital, she has saved enough money to move from the housing
development into her own residence.
The Employer of the Year Award goes to Sylmar Rehabilitation
Center. The center has hired 25 employees from JTPA over the
past year. The center has hired individuals formerly on
AFDC/GR who faced multiple barriers to employment, including
high school dropouts, offenders and substance abusers, and
has successfully trained them for careers in the nursing and
medical administration fields.
Honorable Mention Employer Award goes to Allstate Insurance
Co. It has been an integral part of the Ramona Gardens
Community Service Center Business Advisory Board. Through Tim
Ballinger, senior account agent, Ramona Gardens JTPA
participant Ms. Gomez has a job and has made remarkable
strides in the area of employment enhancement and retention.
