(Sept. 18) --(BUSINESS WIRE) Drexel University Drexel University, at Philadelphia, Pa.; coeducational; founded 1891 by Anthony J. Drexel, opened 1892, chartered 1894 as Drexel Institute of Art, Science, and Industry. It was renamed Drexel Institute of Technology in 1936 and gained university status in 1970.
What: More than 1,500 freshmen will brave the elements to root
on the Phillies for Drexel Day at the Vet on Thursday.
Because of the game's wildcard implications and the threat
of Hurricane Isabel, first pitch was moved from 7:05 to
1:05 p.m.
The students, wearing Drexel blue and gold T-shirts and
hats, will fill eight sections in the 300 level (301 -
306, 372 - 373) in right and center field. Drexel Day at
the Vet is part of the University's New Student Days,
which welcomes freshmen to campus and introduces them to
the City of Philadelphia.
Before the game, the University's female student a
cappella group, The Treblemakers, will sing the national
anthem and the Drexel Dragon mascot will throw the
ceremonial first pitch. The Drexel Dragon and Phillie
Phanatic will perform their mascot antics on the field
during pre-game warm-up, throughout the game in the stands
and on the Phillies dugout during the seventh inning
stretch.
