The Rhode Island Fire Safety Code Board will hear and see a
presentation from International Fire Resistant Systems, Inc. (IFRS)
concerning its product, Firefree 88. The product is an intumescent
coating that under certified UL lab testing has withstood 2000-degree
fires for 2 hours. Firefree 88 contains fires at their point of origin
making it particularly applicable in nursing homes, hospitals,
restaurants, bars, banquet facilities, churches, apartment buildings,
schools, dormitories, homeless shelters, historic buildings, condos
and high-rise office buildings, where in some cases, sprinklers are
not an option. Firefree 88 is approximately 1/3 the cost of sprinklers
in retrofit situations.

Route 1/Post Road to entrance to Quonset Point/Davisville,
turn onto Newcomb Road, stay left (sign points to
Davisville), go 3/10 of a mile to traffic signal, left at
light on Iafrate to traffic circle, around circle.
International Fire Resistant Systems, Inc. will hold a
demonstration of Firefree 88. Demonstration will duplicate the most
stringent fire lab test, a UBC 26-3 room corner test. Demonstration
will consist of two 8x12 rooms built with standard building materials
2 x 4 studs, chipboard exterior walls and ceiling, sheet rock
interior walls and ceiling interior walls and ceilings covered with
highly flammable 1 inch 4 x 8 polyurethane foam panels. Interior of
one room painted with standard house paint, the other will be coated
with Firefree 88. Per UBC 26-3 specifications, a wood crib will be
placed in the same corner of each room and set on fire. The room
painted with house paint will burn in minutes the room coated with
Firefree will not burn.
News Conference to follow the demonstration in the Economic
Development Corporation offices 300 yards south of the demonstration
site. Individual interviews or meetings with IFRS executives can be
arranged on November 24 and the morning and evening of November 25.
