ADVISORY/I.N.S. to Announce Decision on Cuban Boy's Fate.

Business Editors

ADVISORY...

--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 5, 2000

TOPIC: The Immigration and Naturalization Service is expected to announce today that the Cuban father of Elian Gonzalez has custody rights to his son, according to the Associated Press. The six-year-old boy was rescued at sea after surviving a shipwreck which claimed his mother while fleeing Cuba for the United States. The AP reported that although the U.S. would allow the child to be returned to Cuba, the logistics of the boy's return are not clear, and could involve legal action outside of American jurisdiction. The custody battle has sparked intense controversy in Cuba and in Miami, where many Cuban exiles say the boy should remain.
