WHAT: A Law Day salute to R. Sargent Shriver, the visionary leader
of America's "War on Poverty," led by former President Bill
Clinton and hosted by the National Center on Poverty Law
(NCPL). The event pays tribute to Mr. Shriver for creating a
locally-based but nationally coordinated system of legal
services for the poor that has endured and grown over the
past 36 years. Through this system, millions of low-income
clients are served each year. The event will support the
work of the National Center on Poverty Law, founded by
Shriver in 1967 as the research and communication hub for
pro bono and legal aid attorneys.
