WHO: Governor Mitt Romney will visit The Greater Boston Food Bank
this afternoon at 2:30 p.m. to sort food with 60 students from
Bishop Fenwick High School in Peabody and St. John's Prep in
Danvers. Governor Romney's visit is a prelude to National
Hunger Awareness Day, which is a nationwide event, taking
place on Thursday, June 5th. The food that Governor Romney and
the volunteer high school students sort will be donated to
families throughout eastern Massachusetts - including some of
the 100,000 children who are at-risk of going to bed hungry on
any given day during the summer.
"We are thrilled that the Governor and these volunteer high
school students will help us to focus the attention on
children, because as school ends - and with it school
breakfast and lunch - many children face summers where access
to the food they need is uncertain," commented Catherine
D'Amato, president and CEO of The Greater Boston Food Bank.
"During the summer, some kids worry about when the ice-cream
truck will arrive. Others worry about when their next meal
will arrive."

also be available around 3:00pm for interviews on the state of
child hunger in the Commonwealth.

WHAT: The Greater Boston Food Bank, the largest non-profit food
distribution organization in New England, is using National
Hunger Awareness Day as a platform to kick-off a summertime
awareness campaign to spotlight the issue of child hunger.
During the week of June 2 and all day on Thursday, June 5,
volunteers from area corporations and high schools will
participate in food sorting competitions at The Greater Boston
Food Bank's 65,000 sq. ft. headquarters at 99 Atkinson Street
in Boston's New Market District.
