WHO:    Joe Raguso, Deputy Secretary of the Division of Science,
        Technology and Innovation, will announce winners at the CalTIP
        2001 Reception in La Jolla

WHAT:   25 California companies will receive $4-million in grants from
        the California Technology Investment Partnership (CalTIP)
        Program

WHERE:   4250 Executive Square, 7th Floor, La Jolla, California

WHEN:    Wednesday, August 29, 2001, 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

WHY:    The CalTIP matching grants program supports projects that
        leverage private sector, federal and state resources to create
        new, globally competitive, commercial products and services
        that will enhance economic growth and job creation in
        California.

HOW:    CalTIP matching grants accelerate the commercialization of
        emerging technologies while helping California companies
        compete nationally for federal research and development
        awards. CalTIP focuses on small, technology-based companies
        with particular emphasis on industry sectors critical to
        California's growth, including aerospace, defense and
        transportation.

      The CalTIP program funds business assistance services through the
Regional Technology Alliance located in Los Angeles, the Bay Area and
San Diego. The Division of Science, Technology and Innovation
administers CalTIP. The Division is part of the California Technology,
Trade and Commerce Agency that serves as the State's principal
catalyst for innovation, investment and economic opportunity that
enhances the quality of life for all Californians.
