Thousands of families still fail to receive money owed to them

WHAT:   State, county and city officials join members of the Earned
        Income Tax Credit (EITC) Campaign Partnership to educate the
        public about the benefits of EITC and Child Tax Credit (CTC)
        filings to increase the number of eligible working families
        claiming these credits.

        Speakers will provide details on the EITC and CTC as well the
        Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, which provides
        free tax preparation assistance to low- and middle-income
        families. Tax credits are retroactive up to three years. Tax
        assistance is available through April 15, 2005.

        EITC Campaign Partnership includes Goodwill Southern
        California and Project Amiga.

WHERE:  Central San Gabriel Valley WorkSource Center
        10507 Valley Blvd., El Monte

WHY:    Each year, thousands of San Gabriel Valley residents miss out
        on a federal tax credit by not claiming the EITC and CTC.
        Residents with children and a family income of under $35,458
        may receive up to $4,300 in EITC or up to $1,000 in CTC. These
        credits not only help workers reduce taxes and supplement
        wages, but also make work more attractive than welfare, thus
        strengthening the overall economy. In Los Angeles County,
        782,862 taxpayers received $1.4 million in EITC last year
        alone.

For more than 15 years, the mission of Project Amiga is Empowerment through Education and Training.
