GlobeCast's IP multicasting demonstrations are open to corporate video users, broadcasters and other content providers.  of end-users, alleviating the bandwidth bottleneck often associated with terrestrial networks," Behar said.

GlobeCast's IP gateway on Telstar 5 supports satellite delivery of high-bandwidth multimedia-rich content -- including video, audio, graphics and text -- to multiple recipients in a secure environment. Applications include live and on-demand video and audio streaming to the desktop, high-speed file transfer and webcasting.

The service appeals to a broad base of customers including corporations, hospitals, universities, broadcast networks, sports broadcasters, webcasters, retailers, advertising agencies and news bureaus, among others. Companies may use GlobeCast's IP gateway for distribution of corporate communications, distance learning, product rollouts, sales training, updating information kiosks, sharing data files among user groups, and a host of other "push" services.

GlobeCast's IP services may be tailored to allow customers to distribute content via unicast (to a single user), multicast (to a group of users) or broadcast (to all users), and to grow their multimedia networks as demand increases. End-users can access satellite-delivered IP multimedia content directly at the desktop, live or on-demand from their local server.
