Background

The Global Internet Project (GIP) is an international group of senior executives committed to fostering continued growth of the Internet. GIP members come from leading Internet-centric companies representing the telecommunications, software, financial services, and content sectors. Based in Arlington, Virginia, the Information Technology Association of America (ITAA) serves as the headquarters of the GIP. The Reston, Virginia-based Cross-Industry Working Team (XIWT) aims to foster the understanding, development, and application of technologies that cross industry boundaries. By facilitating dialog between key private and public US stakeholders, the XIWT works to develop common approaches to Internet architecture and technology.

GIP and XIWT members are active participants in international private sector-led initiatives to improve the reliability of the Internet and reduce its vulnerability to cyber-attacks or cyber-terrorism. This dialog is the second in a series of GIP-sponsored high-level forums among leaders of the global Internet industry, key policymakers, and technologists. The GIP, WorldCom, and the XIWT are hosting this timely industry-government dialog, and WorldCom is a corporate co-sponsor.
