WHY: The interoperability demonstration at SUPERCOMM 2004 proves
the viability of interoperable control plane technologies and
is an important first step toward carrier deployment of
services based on them into individual networks.
WHAT: Fujitsu will participate in the world's first international,
joint-carrier, multi-vendor optical networking
interoperability demonstration of Ethernet over SONET/SDH
services and dynamic optical networking services. Fujitsu
FLASHWAVE(R) 4000 Multiservice Provisioning Platforms (MSPPs)
will power a number of the demonstrations to provide specific
functionality:
-- The FLASHWAVE 4020 Ethernet Service Platform (ESP), the
newest addition to the FLASHWAVE 4000 product line, will
perform GFP service adaptation for a digital video stream
in a simulated customer premises application.
-- The FLASHWAVE 4300 multiservice aggregation platform will
perform network edge UNI-C signaling adaptation and
aggregation.
-- The FLASHWAVE 4500 multiservice transport platform will
perform core adaptation and participate in MPLS
operations.

The Optical Internetworking Forum (OIF) is sponsoring the
industry's first international joint-carrier, multi-vendor
optical networking interoperability demonstration. The event,
conducted simultaneously in China, Germany, Italy, Japan and
the United States will highlight network interoperable
solutions among the participating vendors employing OIF
implementation agreements in a multi-carrier environment. The
participating supplier and carrier companies will conduct
interoperability testing of Ethernet over SONET/SDH services
and dynamic optical networking services. Based on ITU-T
standards for Ethernet service adaptation, the Ethernet over
SONET/SDH services testing will include the Generic Framing
Procedure (GFP), Virtual Concatenation (VCAT), and the Link
Capacity Adjustment Scheme (LCAS). The dynamic optical
networking interoperability testing will be based on OIF
implementation agreements for UNI 1.0 release 2 and E-NNI, and
will include testing of both the control and data plane. These
implementation agreements are based on the ITU's requirements
for automatically switched optical networks. Additional
information can be found at http://www.oiforum.com.
