Volunteers To Read Franklin In The Dark Book To Hundreds Of Kids
WHAT: Reading out loud to children just 30 minutes per day provides necessary
brain food to promote life long literacy skills. Franklin the Turtle and Sears,
Roebuck and Co. are teaming up to help kick off International Literacy Day and
to launch the joint efforts of Franklin and Sears volunteers to promote family
literacy. More than 200 3- to 6-year-olds will join Franklin for a special
reading of Franklin In the Dark on the steps of the Library of Congress.
Franklin and friends will stage a live 20-minute dance and music performance
following the reading. EVENT: Reading of Franklin In the Dark to kick off
International Literacy Day activities. Reading conducted by Jackie
Joyner-Kersee 4 - Time U.S. Olympic athlete, winner of 6 Olympic medals - 3
golds, one sliver and two bronzes -- and 4 gold medals in the outdoor world
championships. Jackie holds the title "Worlds Greatest Female Athlete." WHEN:
