Photo Opportunities: 30 children and their families will be greeted at the North Pole gate area by Stanley C. Panther of the Florida Panthers.

Following boarding they will "take off" to see Santa. The plane will be met by fire trucks with a celebratory water cascade and greeted by Santa.

Santa will then escort the special passengers to a reception area at the airport for a holiday party with goodies and gifts provided by Spirit Airlines.

The Rest of the Story: This North Pole program is in its 16th year and was founded by the Eastern Airlines Silverliners. The tradition is carried on by the Basette's, a 30-member organization of Broward aviation sales executives who are in the 21st year of doing good deeds for the Broward County community.

Ed Nelson, director of the Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport, will play the part of Santa and Alice Parkman, director of sales and marketing at the Hilton Fort Lauderdale/Sunrise will play the part of Mrs. Claus.

"As Fort Lauderdale's hometown airline, we are thrilled to be able to reach out into the community again this year and give these special kids a treat. We very much appreciate the support of Broward Aviation as well as the Florida Panthers and our own spirited team and others to make all of this happen," said Tom Anderson, senior vice president of marketing and chief marketing officer.
