ADVISORY...for Wednesday Wednesday: see week.  & Thursday Thursday: see week.  (Oct. 2 & 3)

--BUSINESS WIRE)--

Active Power (Nasdaq:ACPW ACPW Asymmetrical Coplanar Waveguide
ACPW Advisory Committee of the Purity of Water (Australia)
)

$30 BILLION DOLLARS IS LOST ANNUALLY BY U.S. FIRMS DUE TO
POWER DISTURBANCES IN THE UNITED STATES (Source: Electric
Power Research Institute, Palo Alto, Calif.)

Today, the Illinois community is dependent on uninterrupted,
conditioned electric power to keep the digital economy moving
and growing. Hospitals, broadcast stations, research
facilities, and other mission-critical centers must operate
uninterrupted 7x24. Each of these industries requires, clean,
conditioned, uninterrupted, electric power and must invest
significant resources on backup power systems for the safety
of its customers and protection of highly sensitive equipment.

WHO: Caterpillar(R) - Patten Power Systems, Elmhurst IL
        &
        Active Power, Inc., Austin TX

Caterpillar(R) is introducing to the Illinois area a
commercially proven, battery-free Cat(R) UPS Uninterruptible
Power Supply, ranging in power from 150 kVA to 900 kVA.
Integrated with highly reliable flywheel technology, the
Cat(R) UPS with 97% efficiency protects against sags, surges
and outages. A flywheel motor-generator stores kinetic energy
in its constantly spinning, low friction, 600-pound steel
disc. Stored energy from the flywheel is instantly converted
to electricity to power the critical load during utility
disturbances or until a standby generator takes over.

WHAT: Patten Power Systems, a Caterpillar(R) dealer, will
demonstrate this break-through flywheel solution for
journalists to report the latest technology in critical load
protection. Reporters, photographers and videographers can
witness the seamless transition of continuous power during a
utility power outage. Journalists also will have the
opportunity to interview the developers of the technology.
Media kits are available on site.

Patten is a leading provider of back-up power for critical
operations in the Chicago area and now offers a battery-free
uninterruptible power system (UPS) integrated with the
flywheel technology developed by Active Power, Inc.
(www.activepower.com). Patten can provide reliable power
protection solutions against a full range of power events
likely to affect critical facilities. (Seminars for engineers
will be running Sept. 30 - Oct. 4 at Patten.)

WHEN: Wednesday, Oct. 2, and Thursday, Oct. 3

WHERE: 615 W. Lake St., Elmhurst, IL 60126...630/530-2200

INVENTOR/
AWARDS: Active Power Chairman and CEO, Joe Pinkerton, co-inventor of
the CleanSource(R) flywheel technology, will be present to
explain the industrial and environmental benefits of this
inventive flywheel system solution. Active Power continues to
unleash innovative technologies that meet the demand for
high-growth, emerging power quality markets. As a leading
innovator and manufacturer of battery-free solutions, the
company currently has 32 issued patents in the United States.

Discover Magazine recognized Active Power for Innovation in
its category "because of its anticipated revolutionary impact
on society," the promise of large-scale displacement of
lead-acid batteries in conventional UPS systems. R&D magazine
recognized the Cat UPS as one of the most significant 100
inventions in 2001. Pinkerton received the Ernst & Young 2001
Entrepreneur of the Year Award for High Tech Manufacturing.
