WHAT: Florida Governor Jeb Bush will join Terremark Worldwide
(AMEX:TWW) chairman and CEO Manuel D. Medina, and
political and business leaders from the U.S., Spain and
Latin America to recognize the critical role the NAP of
the Americas has played in establishing the state of
Florida as the Internet "capital between Latin America
and the world." They will be joined by high-ranking
representatives from the Comunidad Autonoma de Madrid
(an organization composed of 179 municipalities in Spain
including the capital of Madrid), Camara de Comercio e
Industria de Madrid (Chamber of Commerce and Industry of
Madrid), and FAPESP (the State of Sao Paulo's (Brazil)
Research Foundation) and other dignitaries at a press
conference held at Terremark's NAP of the America in
Miami. The program will include a press briefing and a
tour of the NAP. A luncheon has been scheduled at the
Renaissance Hotel immediately following these events.
The event will highlight several significant trends
that will provide continued growth opportunities for
Terremark and further broaden Florida's role as the
world's gateway for Internet connectivity.
-- During the past few years, unique Internet technology and service companies
established in Florida are linking the U.S. with Latin America, Europe, and
other parts of the world. In addition, solutions developed in Florida are being
used to expand the Internet and telecommunications capabilities of other
countries. One prime example is Terremark, which successfully created, owns,
operates and has attracted over 70 customers to the NAP of the Americas--the
premier Network Access Point and the only carrier-neutral Tier-1 NAP in the
world. Terremark recently signed agreements to establish the NAP do Brazil, the
NAP de Madrid, and, potentially, other TerreNAP Data Centers throughout Spain.
-- According to the Packet Geography 2002, Miami is ranked as the No. 1 of the
Top 10 International Internet Hub City for Latin America & Caribbean in 2001,
followed immediately by Sao Paulo as No. 2.
-- A Probe Research study says that South America's wired Internet connectivity
- which includes subscribers plus users of free Internet services - was 6.8
million in January of 2001. By the end of this year, Probe projects 9.9 million
connections, and 17.96 million by the end of 2005. Europe ended 2001 with 41.6
million, and will end 2002 with 46.5 million and, by the end of 2005, the
region will have 58.8 million web connections the study said.
-- The Yankee Group predicts by 2006 the broadband services market in Latin
America, Europe and Asia will generate $33 billion in these regions, and that
subscribers and users will reach 18 million in Latin America, 60 million in
Europe and 145 million in Asia by 2005.
-- IDC predicts that the European ASP services market will grow from USD258
million in 2001, to USD6.5 billion in 2006. This represents a CAGR of 91% for
the market. In addition, the outsourcing sector is experiencing steady growth
due to companies focusing on costs.
-- Internet2--the next generation of the Internet--will create new advanced
applications and services for education and research institutions that require
premium connectivity and technology solutions. Terremark has partnered with
Florida International University in this endeavor whose efforts will likely
later be transformed into applications for business and consumer
users--creating even a greater need for high-level connectivity. Terremark and
its NAPs are at the vanguard of these new applications.
