About 1,000 high school aged girls from San Francisco are expected to attend the conference, which promises to be both fun and informative. Seventeen organizations -- including Balboa Teen Health Center, Women's Institute for Leadership Development and UCSF Women's Health -- will present workshops on a broad range of topics that shape the lives of young women everyday. "The challenges facing adolescent girls are great, particularly issues around their physical and emotional health," Speier said. "This conference is hopefully a prescription to help guide them in the choices they make." Many of the workshops and presentations will be youth led.
