WHO: Harvey Brown, MD, Opthalmology, at the Kaiser Permanente
Harbor City Medical Center
WHAT: Eye Care Message - Sunglasses can make the difference
The official start of summer is June 21st and anybody out of
doors during daylight hours needs to make sure that their eyes
are protected from the summer's intense ultraviolet (UV)
light.
Over time, UV rays can cause cumulative eye damage leading to
cataracts and other eye disorders, some of which can lead to
blindness.
Kaiser Permanente opthamologists are encouraging people to
wear 100% UV rated, wrap-around sunglasses and hats that
shade the face when outdoors, particularly between the hours
of 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
WHY: Sunglasses are an eye health necessity, not an accessory
WHEN: Dr. Harvey Brown can be scheduled for interviews with the news
media.
VISUAL: Man-on-the-street interviews in a sunny place (Santa Monica,
Third Street Promenade). People of various ages trying on
sunglasses. Sampling sunglasses without and without UV labels.
