ADVISORY/Experts Warn Nation to Be Better Prepared for Bioterrorism.

Business Editors

ADVISORY...

--(BUSINESS WIRE)--November 30, 2000
TOPIC: In a recent forum on bioterrorism, experts in national security, health
and biotechnology stressed the ease at which terrorists could use diseases such
as anthrax and small pox as weapons, as reported by Reuters. Many experts
allege that the United States is not prepared to deal with an act of
bioterrorism. Last May, an exercise involving U.S. government officials called
TOPOFF demonstrated what could go wrong while responding to simulated chemical
weapons attacks, nuclear attacks and plague. According to the report, TOPOFF
demonstrated that had the attacks been real, hundreds of people would have
died. The Center for Disease Control reportedly has eight Push Packages, each
holding 109 air cargo containers of medical supplies and antibiotics that could
be dispersed on 12 hours notice in case of emergency, the article states.
