ADVISORY/Experts Available to Discuss Using Home Computers to Research Anthrax and Other Diseases.

Business Editors

ADVISORY...

--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 22, 2002
TOPIC: According to a story by the Associated Press, any personal computer user
can use their machine's extra processing power to help cure anthrax. The
"distributed computing" effort will be launched Thursday and will allow
participants to download a free screen-saver that uses a computer's excess
capacity to perform computations for an Oxford University-based anthrax
project. The project is based on the premise that the average personal computer
uses between 13% and 18% of its processing power at any given time, and it
could give researchers more computational power than the world's 10 best
supercomputers combined, the story said. It is being sponsored by Intel Corp.
and Microsoft Corp. EXPERTS: ExpertSource can offer several highly qualified
experts to comment on this story:
