ADVISORY/Experts Available to Discuss States Acting Locally on Global Warming.

Business Editors

ADVISORY...

--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 12, 2002
TOPIC: While Congress and the Bush Administration debate the best way to combat global warming, many state officials are doing what they can to fight the environmental problem locally, according to an article by The Washington Post. According to a study to be released this week by the Pew Center on Global Climate Change, more than 50% of the states have implemented voluntary and mandatory programs to reduce carbon emissions. Fifteen states passed legislation requiring utility companies to increase use of renewable energy sources such as wind power. While Bush has only advocated voluntary measures, many industrial states are reducing plant emissions in case the federal government later decides to impose mandatory controls.
