TOPIC: A telephone study, conducted in March by The Gallop Organization, of 934
Americans across the nation found that four in five people would give up some
freedoms to increase security, according to an article by The Associated Press.
One-third of the participants were in favor of allowing authorities easy access
to private phone conversations and email. Also, more than 70 percent of people
polled supported the idea of requiring U.S. citizens to carry identification
cards, including fingerprints, the article says. The University of Oklahoma
psychiatry department co-sponsored the study via a grant from the Oklahoma City
