TOPIC: The Associated Press reports that consumer spending and incomes both
rose in January in what experts call a sign that the U.S. economy may be
beginning a slow recovery. The Commerce Department reported Friday that
spending by consumers, which accounts for two-thirds of all economic activity,
rose 0.4 percent last month after being flat in December, the story said.
Incomes also increased by 0.4 percent after a 0.3 percent increase in December.
