ADVISORY/Experts Available To Discuss Study that Evaluates News Coverage.

Business Editors

ADVISORY...

--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 28, 2002
TOPIC: A study conducted by researchers for the Project for Excellence in
Journalism found that although news coverage immediately following the Sept. 11
attacks was based on solid sources, reporting by the media since then has
included more speculation and analysis, according to an article by The
Associated Press. Researchers compared news coverage from 2,496 newspapers,
magazines and television stations from mid-September, mid-November and
mid-December and categorized news stories as fact, analysis attributed to
reporting or speculation, the article says. According to the study, 75 percent
of news reports immediately following the Sept. 11 attacks were categorized as
factual, while in December "factual" coverage dropped to 63 percent overall.
The researchers said the drop could be attributed, in part, to the government
restrictions put on journalists. The study was funded by the Pew Charitable
Trusts. EXPERTS: ExpertSource can offer several highly qualified experts to
