TOPIC: Americans spent $1.3 trillion on health care in 2000, nearly 7 percent
more than in 1999, and costs will continue to rise faster than inflation, MSNBC
reports. According to a report by the Health and Human Services Department's
Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, spending averaged $4,637 per person
and increased in all categories, especially prescriptions, which rose a
