Business Editors

ADVISORY...

--(BUSINESS WIRE)

TOPIC: An Internet worm (networking, security) Internet Worm - The November 1988 worm perpetrated by Robert T. Morris. The worm was a program which took advantage of bugs in the Sun Unix sendmail program, Vax programs, and other security loopholes to distribute itself to over 6000 computers on the Internet. The worm itself had a bug which made it create many copies of itself on machines it infected, which quickly used up all available processor time on those systems., which is being called "Blaster" or "San", has infected thousands of computers that use recent versions of Windows, according to an article by washingtonpost.com. The worm infects a computer and then installs instructions to attack the Microsoft Update Web site, which is where users would go to download patches to protect their systems from Internet worms. Experts believe the worm will be more troublesome for home users who are less likely to know how to install anti-virus updates to protect their systems.
