SEC Chairman Levitt and Accounting Experts to Address Panel on

Audit Effectiveness

The Panel on Audit Effectiveness will hold public hearings on July 10 and 11, 2000 to obtain the views of interested individuals and organizations on the Panel's Exposure Draft of its Report and Recommendations, dated May 31, 2000.

The Panel's recommendations are addressed to many constituencies: the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Public Oversight Board, standards-setters, CPA (Computer Press Association, Landing, NJ) An earlier membership organization founded in 1983 that promoted excellence in computer journalism. Its annual awards honored outstanding examples in print, broadcast and electronic media. The CPA disbanded in 2000.  firms, the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA AICPA

NB: Seating is limited

Speakers will be allotted up to 15 minutes for their presentations, followed by a period for answering questions from members of the Panel. Observers are welcome at the public hearings, but may not participate in the discussions.

The members of the Panel were drawn from industry, public practice and academia and include two former SEC Commissioners. Panel members are:

At the request of Chairman Arthur Levitt of the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Panel was formed in October 1998 by the Public Oversight Board, an independent private sector body that oversees the self-regulatory programs of the SEC Practice Section of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants With over 330,525 CPA members (in August 2006), the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) is the largest professional organization of Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) in the United States of America. . The Panel was charged to thoroughly examine the current audit model.
