WHAT/
WHO: With an $8,000 donation from Washington Mutual on the
line, the pressure is on for Everett's Mayor Frank
Anderson as he gears up to raise money for Housing Hope's
annual Stone Soup banquet. The Mayor will be practicing
his hockey shot in anticipation of the big event -- in
which Washington Mutual will donate money for every shot
made.
Background: The nonprofit's fundraiser will be held on June 7 and
represents the first event at the city's new events center
which is also home to the Everett Silvertips. With the
help of Doug Soetaert, the general manager of the Everett
Silvertips and former Stanley Cup winner, the Mayor will
get some advance hockey pointers that are sure to serve
him well on game day which will be held in conjunction
with the Stone Soup fundraiser. During the banquet,
community members will try and score a goal worth $1,000
each. The Mayor will then have the opportunity to double
previously scored goals, making his shot and the donation
to Housing Hope worth $8,000.
Following what is sure to be a grueling practice, the
Mayor will be treated to a special lunch of Stone Soup
prepared by the Kindergarteners at the local daycare.
Housing Hope provides housing and supportive services to
homeless and low income households in Snohomish County.
