 packet forwarding Forwarding is the relaying of packets from one network segment to another by nodes in a computer network.

The simplest forwarding model - unicasting - involves a packet being relayed from link to link along a chain leading from the packet's source to its destination.
 ASICs for converged optical networks, today announced Forte(TM), the industry's first dual full-duplex Capable of transmitting and receiving over the same channel simultaneously. In pure digital networks, this is achieved with two pairs of wires. In analog networks or in digital networks using carriers, it is achieved by dividing the bandwidth of the line into two frequencies, one for  OC-48c configurable wire-speed packet-forwarding engine for optical multi-service platforms.
